Tips for Using Tanning Lotions for Tanning Beds

June 15, 2020 By Barbara Leave a Comment

Estimated Time to Read: 3 minutes

Tanning lotions are not just to protect you in the outdoor sunshine. They are needed even more on tanning beds. Here are some explanations of the differences between indoor and outdoor tanning, using tanning lotions for tanning beds, and some tips to help you get a great tan.

Cautions and explanations

You can’t get a tan indoors without a tanning lotion. Tanning lotions for tanning beds activate melanin in the skin by increasing blood flow and warming the skin. Without a lotion, the tan can’t happen. There is nothing to trigger it. Just remember that, while you need a tanning lotion for the tanning bed, it must be a special lotion. Tanning beds need special care. Using just any outdoor lotion may damage the acrylic in the tanning bed or build up oils on the mattress. Use a specific indoor tanning lotion that does not contain mineral oils on the tanning bed.

What about sunscreen?

Some indoor tanning lotions contain sunscreen because most tanning beds use ultraviolet rays, so if the bed you are using does have UV rays, use tanning lotions for tanning beds that contain sunscreen, and wear lip protection and sunglasses as well.  Tanning beds are meant to mimic the perfect conditions for the perfect tan, and sometimes that includes UV rays!

To get the best tan, however, choose from among the best tanning lotions for tanning beds, apply as recommended, and educate yourself as to your skin type and its needs. There are many kinds of tanning lotions, and they differ in their names, their promised color, and their type. Do you want the tingle, a color enhancer, or an accelerator? What difference does it make, and which is best for you? It really depends on you.

Be prepared

Pre-tanning preparation means knowing your skin type and whether or not you find it easy or difficult to tan. Some people have light skin that burns easily; others have dark skin that tans quickly. Get the right lotion, but don’t expect to burn. A sunburn is never a prerequisite to a tan. Additionally, many of the tanning lotions for tanning beds are also skin care in a bottle. They are tanning lotion, moisturizer, bronzer, and sunscreen. They also smell great, and they make you feel great.

To get the best from a tanning lotion, it is best to prepare for the tanning session. Before you go, shower and exfoliate. This will help the skin absorb the lotion better. Apply moisturizers and drink water. Hydrated skin tans better. Don’t wear perfumes or makeups, and there is no need to worry about tattoos. Tanning lotions for tanning beds will not fade or damage them.  If you are thinking about tanning, think also about the medications you are taking. They can affect the way your skin reacts, so that needs to be a part of the preparation, too.

What kinds of tanning lotions are out there?

So, what about these lotions? There are three basic types. Accelerators, bronzers, and tinglers.

Accelerators get your skin as tanned as it can naturally, and without extra dyes or stimulators. Bronzers, on the other hand, do contain pigment, so the tan will begin instantly. Be careful with these. They might stain your hands. You might have heard about tinglers. Although popular, they are not for the novice tanner! They contain a tingling lotion with ingredients that encourage the skin to produce more melanin more quickly, allowing your skin to darken more quickly. Some people love the added kick from the tingle; others don’t. It’s not necessary for everyone, so choose the tanning lotions for tanning beds that suit you best.

When you are choosing your tanning lotions for tanning beds, be sure to know what you need, and make sure you look over the ingredients. Most of the tanning lotions smell great because they include fruit extracts, butters, cacao, and other fragrances in the lotion. A great tan does begin with the best lotion, definitely. It ends with proper care, also. Be sure to moisturize afterwards, and wait a day or so, if you find that you are not as dark as you expected to be. Some tans deepen over days.

Order your tanning lotion from a company whose lotions were designed to be just what you need, and from a company whose tanning lotions for tanning beds are made from the very best and freshest of ingredients. Don’t forget to use a tanning lotion made for tanning beds to enhance your experience—and your results!
