It is a known fact that everyone has witnessed a disaster that her trendy or funky apparel has suddenly looked like an ordinary cloth with one wash. A thread could be seen hanging from your tees after just a few wears. We need to understand that not all apparel made to last for a long time. One can blame about the globalized fashion that believes in lightning fast production and a nominal price tag. Every one of us shops frequently and craves for new designs every minute thereby creating a culture of disposable and poor-quality clothes. If we want to shop good quality sorority apparel that will last for a long time, then we need to know some basics before shopping. The fact is the crappy material that dominates the apparel available to us at present; there is a whole lot of generation who has no idea about the quality material. However, the exciting part is one do not have to be a fashionista but to keep some points in mind while shopping.
Have a look at the label- A cloth’s fabric material matters. Many prefer fibers from animals and plants such as linen, wool, or silk but the current trend shows synthetics have the largest share in our wardrobe in the form of rayon, polyester, spandex, acrylic and various manmade fibers spun from petrochemicals and plastics. Even a cloth labeled as pure cotton can be poor quality by using of low-quality fibers, which are generally, not strong.
Feel the cloth by touching – The best way to understand fabric, woven or knit is by touching. Does it feel substantial, soft or smooth or else it is rough, brittle or thin. The fact is if there is enough fiber in the garment then it should last longer. If the yarns are tightly knotted but thin then also the cloth can be lightweight. Look for the density of the cloth and examine your own set of clothes that has come of age with respect to laundry habits, personal style, and rotation of clothes.
Hold the garment to the light and stretch – It is difficult to always judge fabric by touch as the manufacturers can add chemicals like starch thereby making the cloth smoother and heftier by creating a layer on the t-shirt or button-up and it will disappear after the first wash. It is best to hold the fabric up to the light and have a close view especially using a button-up shirt. By holding, one can have a sense of the weight and the weave’s density. One should pay heed to individual yarns and the more tightly spun the fabric the better. For checking the knits, try to stretch the fabric from an unnoticeable spot, which will bounce back to its original shape. If it does not happen at that moment, then it will not happen again which means the garment is not knitted properly.
Check for the seams outside and inside- Do not check the fabric only but it is vital to have a look at the seams that hold the garment together. The stitches should be lying flat, closely spaced and even on the fabric. Do not just peek on the outside of the cloth but also check the hem on a shirt or the inside of the crotch of the pants. If the surface thread is very tight and the thread on the inner area is loose, then we need to avoid this type of clothing. Both the area should be balanced so that after washing the thread remains intact.
Need to shell out an extra penny for having top quality – the cost factor comes from having a good fabric and the cost of the labor. Fabrics that are cheaper are having low-quality materials or using less fiber for keeping the price less. The manufacturers are very smart and use cheap quality thread that cannot withstand stress for a long time. So one needs to have a good understanding of a good garment.
